TAKING THE LEAD

TMII is a pro-democracy, and rights based non-profit organization which seeks to spread democratic values and principles as well as promote the protection and respect for Environmental, Social and Economic Rights. As a research, training organization, we combat impunity as well as poverty and its principal dimensions while at the same time, strive to build result-driven linkages between human rights and other areas as corporate social responsibility, peace-building, governance, and development issues. Our departmental teams boast of members who have been involved in national and international advocacy programs.

Dr. Emmanuel O. Emmanuel,

Executive Director

With the persistent negative impacts of oil exploration and production for the past 50 years, coupled with the introduction of new gas projects, aimed at maximizing profit and ending gas flaring in the Niger Delta, it was imperative to have a credible and professional group on ground to build grassroots capacity in corporate engagement processes through collaborative or partnership monitoring of corporate social responsibility and enhanced environmental performance.
OUR CALL

TMII is committed to global peace and security, gender advocacy, education, human rights, environmental and social justice. With the persistent negative impacts of oil exploration and production for the past 50 years, coupled with the introduction of new gas projects, aimed at maximizing profit and ending gas flaring in the Niger Delta, it was imperative to have a credible and professional group on ground to build grassroots capacity in corporate engagement processes through collaborative or partnership monitoring of corporate social responsibility and enhanced performance.

The birth of TMII was necessitated as a result of the gaps observed from the inadequate coverage of the IOGP by other NGOs. These gaps include lack of institutional capacity to effectively monitor the project by most NGOs working in the focal area, lack of existence of competent CBOs in the host communities to manage their affairs, lack of existence of Peace and Mediation centres in impacted communities for sustainable peace and lack of involvement of women in conflict management processes. TMII therefore emerged to support the works of other NGOs operating in the region, facilitate the establishment and train CBOs to critically drive the already popular and familiar objectives of improved environmental performance and enhanced relationship amongst stakeholders.
